The On On Hotel in Phuket Town was the very first Hotel to open in Phuket, which incidentally, is situated on its original site on Phang Na road, in the old town. The hotel very much like the old town itself has been renovated recently.
On On Hotel is slap bang in the middle of town and attracts clientele from all over the world. It provides an alternative holidaying experience from that of the usual resorts which many folk flock too on the west side of the island.
Almost a hundred years ago, Phuket Town was a very busy trading post, and when the ON ON opened its doors for the first time in 1929, it was perfectly located for the European sailors and Chinese traders to sell their wares. It was also a boom time for the Tin Mining Industry in Phuket.
The name ON ON actually comes from the Chines word UN UN which means ‘Happiness for all Visitors.’
The On On hotel has now been renamed ‘The memory at ON ON’ and meets the needs of any traveler, whether holidaying in large groups or to the more independent minded back packer, it has it all.
All the private rooms demonstrate classic features, beautiful tiled floors to old fashioned shuttered windows. Plus many other old antique furnishings to give a genuine feel of a bygone age.
All Private rooms are categorised as follows: The Memory Superior, The Memory Deluxe, The Memory Junior Suite and The Memory Suite, all differ slightly in price and of course features.
All rooms do include: Air conditioning, Wi-Fi as standard, safe deposit boxes tea/coffee facilities large LED TV, Fridge, Beautiful Rain Shower, Phone.
The dormitories also have excellent facilities, and there are several dormitories to choose from such as: The 4 Bed Female Dorm with Bath, also 4 Bed Mixed Dorm with Shared bath and there is also a 6 Bed Mixed Norm too.
The bunk beds have been custom made with the back-packer in mind. They have their own shelf for storage, electric plug socket, curtain and movable light. And there is extra privacy for and ladies if they require such a service. There is an area where guests can prepare their own light meals and snacks.
ON ON has a very laid back backpacker style approach, while at the same time is kept in excellent condition. ON ON attracts many like-minded travellers, who just like to chill and hangout in the lounge on the comfy chairs and sofas and talk about their experiences together; all the while in the safety of this old, yet magnificent buildings’ bosom.
For those not wishing to prepare their own meal, then there is a wonderful old style Sino- Portuguese restaurant. Which serves a large selection of Thai and European cuisines, the restaurant is open throughout the day. There is a large seating area which offers air conditioning or not depending on the customer’s wishes.
There is also a road side bar / Café which is a great place to watch the world go by whilst sipping an ice cold Cappuccino or Tea.
The ground floor reception area doubles as an art gallery and there is a tour desk for customers to book on going travel plans and for local trips too. The hotel reception is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Only a few minutes away there is the large Rassada Pier servicing the islands in Phang Na bay such as Phi Phi and the Racha Islands. There is the Bus station too, where buses can be caught on a daily base to all over the country. Phuket International Airport is only 30 minutes away by car.
Phuket Town is an excellent place to explore and ON ON Hotel puts you in a perfect position: The Thai Hua Museum, Baan Chinpracha and Jui Tui Shrine are just a few and are great places of interest in Phuket Town amongst many others.
There is a genuine different vibe to Phuket Town; with the many renovated old buildings are places of fascination and marvel.
