Rang Hill, Phuket Town leads to one of the best view points in Phuket, and is a very popular spot for romantic liaisons. Also as well, for keep fit fanatics who love to run up the hill during the early evenings. There are three different routes and if you are not paying attention, it is quite easily done to come down a different route than the one you went up.

It’s well worth the trip up, as it possible to see the whole of Phuket Town from up there. There are several little restaurants and small watering holes to keep you going on your trek; obviously not everyone wants to walk up, the large road accommodates cars and motorbikes too.

One route up to the summit can be found on Yaowarat Road, opposite the Wichira Hospital. Another route is on the Mae Lung Road, which runs east to west, and from this approach it is possible to see the Thai Temple, there is a white Chedi on the right and another Chinese Buddhist Temple on the left hand side.

Here, there is a shrine, which is sat next to an old Chinese cemetery, cemeteries are always fascinating places and the tombs to the dead of a bygone era are interesting as long as respect is shown of course, it is also possible to get some great photos.

Rang Hill is another place in Phuket that is full of surprises, as you reach the top, in all probability you should be greeted by a group of local monkeys. These monkeys are not shy and will approach people, as with all wild life in Phuket, it is best to treat with caution and do not feed them. It is wise to be wary of mothers carrying their young; they can be quite defensive, especially if people get too close to their baby monkey.

Tung Ka Café is a long established eating place with the best views on the hill. It is also the most romantic of the three restaurants, with its 180 degree panoramic viewpoint. It has three large, separate terraces. The breeze is sublime and listening to all the calls of nature from the trees above is a treat. The food is excellent and reasonable they also have a nice wine list, with menus in both Thai and English.

Another restaurant up Rang Hill is called the Phuket View Restaurant, it has been established up Rang Hill for over 20 years and is the largest of the restaurants up the there. Of course, it’s best to get there early as the place can fill up and the best seats with the best views will be taken quickly.

The third and smallest and does not have the same views as the other two, is the Khao Rang Breeze restaurant. A much cozier place and the food is also very good and the toilets must be seen to be believed.

There are some small shops at the summit which sell souvenirs, ice cream and fruit shakes. There are some benches to sit and relax whilst enjoying the views, there is a beautiful garden to explore around, again be careful, that the monkeys do not ambush you. There is also a small exercise park for those feeling energetic. Don’t forget the camera, walking shoes and water.
