Koh Lone is only a hop skip and a jump from the east coast of Phuket. Pretty much uninhabited, however there is a small Muslim fisherman’s village on its north-western side where you can still these men and women mending nets and preparing their boats for fishing trips.
Koh Keeyao which means Green Island in Thai, this beautiful petite island sits just off the southern west coast of Phuket and here you can find a small Buddhist temple.
Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yai Noi
Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai are sister islands east of Phuket in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, really quite close to Phuket. Koh Yao Yai Island is very quiet with small communities dotted about in residence; you can find the odd resort on the island, in general though the island is a perfect getaway.
Development is accelerating at a little quicker pace than on Yao Yai, Koh Yao Noi is still extremely quiet and well worth the journey out here. Both of these islands are a perfect sanctuary for those wishing to forget civilisation -if only for a day.
Koh Bon is due south of Phuket and is the island we meet before hitting Racha Yai. The island is made up of Granite boulders; the beach is pure white fine sand that just slips through your toes.
Racha Yai lies some 30 minutes away from the southern end of Phuket and is a little busier during the day time. If you should decide to go, you will see why it has become popular in recent years. The islands are made of stunning granite formations and pure white sandy beaches surrounded by the azure waters of the Andaman Sea.
Racha Noi is the little sister island to Racha Yai although a little further away, you truly get the feeling of the wilderness out here. Rach Noi is the last outpost of Phuket before the sea gets deep again and is a popular island for Fishing and Scuba Diving.
Phi Phi Islands
The Phi Phi Islands in Krabi province are one of Thailand’s most beautiful islands. It is located south of Phang Nga Bay, roughly 25 nautical miles East of Phuket Island. The Phi Phi island group consists of Koh Phi Phi Don (the main Island where people live and all hotels are located) and the uninhabited Koh Phi Phi Lee which became famous by the Hollywood movie The Beach.
The Similan Islands are a little further afield again, these nine islands are possibly the most spectacular islands in the country and lying 90 km’s north of Phuket, they are extremely popular with Scuba Divers, Snorkelers and Nature Lovers in general too.
Koh Tachai is even further away. This island has without doubt the finest beach in the country. It truly is Paradise Island, only recently have day trippers and island hoppers become aware of its stunning natural beauty; the beach here is to die for the island also has a view point where some amazing shots can be taken of the island.
