Lard Yai – Every Sunday Thalang Road in Old Phuket Town is closed for traffic and turns into a walking street market where you can buy lots of different food, cloth and a lot of other stuff. Yesterdays lard Yai was opened by a Baba (Peranakan) Wedding Procession.
Lard Yai is kind of a competition to the Weekend Night Market which is selling all kind of goods every Saturday and Sunday near Naka Temple. The weekend night market is much bigger, however the official name for Sunday’s Thalang Road walking street is “Lard Yai” which means “Big Market”. Reason for it might be as back in the good old days, Thalang Road was the main market street in Phuket town.
